Cleaning & Storing Your Toothbrush

Most of us have been using a toothbrush since we were old enough to hold onto one, what could we possibly find out about them that we don't already know? Well, you'd be surprised. For instance, did you know that you should rinse your toothbrush BEFORE and after brushing? Airborne bacteria and other particles like dust can settle on your toothbrush between brushings. If you don't want to put that in your mouth you can get in the habit of rinsing your brush under hot water while briskly rubbing the bristles back and forth both before and after brushing.

Do You Know Your Teeth Can Talk?

Well, maybe "communicate" would be a better word, but there is no doubt that your teeth have a lot to say about how they are feeling and when they need help. For instance, if you notice that when you bite down you experience a sudden pain in one or more teeth it could mean you have tooth decay (AKA a cavity).

Let's Talk Fillings!

Dental fillings... most of us have them in our mouths but what do you really know about them? If you have old fillings chances are good you have dental amalgam fillings, also known as silver fillings. Dental Amalgam is a mixture of mercury (yes mercury), silver, tin and copper with mercury making up about 50% of the compound. Mercury is used because it is the only element that will bind all the metals in the filling together so they can be used to fill cavities.

Modern Dentists Don’t Deserve a Bad Rap!

People from a certain generation may remember painful visits to the dentist complete with syringes the size of turkey basters poised to plunge into cringing gums to eventually render the patient mostly pain free for the rest of the procedure.

How Much Do You Know About Your Teeth?

We were born with teeth and most of us live with them for our whole lives. We use them every day, we curse them when they hurt and praise them when they enhance our smile. But how much do we really KNOW about them?

For instance our baby (or milk) teeth start to form when we are still in the womb but don't appear until we are around 6 months old. Once they do push their way through our gums (sleepless nights all round) we only see two thirds of them, one third remains (like an iceberg) below the gum line where they anchor the teeth in the jaw bone.

Dental Implants - keep your teeth in your mouth where they belong!

It used to be, in the "olden days", that the only way to replace a missing tooth was a bridge or dentures. Not so anymore! Today you can regain your smile and your confidence with dental implants, a permanent solution to missing teeth.
